My teaching style revolves around the beauty that we can create with music; ultimately, this is art! I especially focus on beautiful tone and musicality, with attention given to mindfulness and concentration. Each lesson includes technical work and precision, as well as more exciting musical work - I cater to your goals, needs and preferences! I find it really important to model proper playing and will often give an example or play along with you so you can match my style, posture, and technique. Read More

My main focus is trying to teach students HOW to learn music, so that they can eventually create their own methodology based on what works best for them. I have eight years of experience teaching private lessons, so I understand how to craft a curriculum to an individual's needs. Working with hundreds of different musicians has taught me that everyone learns music differently: some through sight reading, others with audio recordings, others still by watching someone else do it first.  We can work on specific topics during our lessons, but I can also give you a bunch of things to review/work on during your own time. I have completed two pedagogy training programs. During my graduate studies at the Longy School of Music, I took a two semester sequence of pedagogy coursework which included teaching two high school students under the supervision of a Longy flute professor. I also participated in the Teacher Training Program at the Boston Flute Academy where I taught workshops to adults and junior high students on sight-reading and intonation, and masterclasses to advanced junior high and high school students. For all of my students, I like to know what styles of music, songs, and artists inspire them! This is a core part of learning how to perform music and will help nourish their desire to learn. I also like to work very individually with each student; not following a set syllabus but rather finding a comfortable pace for the different needs and wants of all my students. This also includes a focus on the body and mind. Read More

For young beginners, I love incorporating fun activities and interactive methods to make learning engaging and enjoyable. I use creative exercises to introduce musical concepts and build a strong technical foundation while keeping the lessons playful and age-appropriate. As students progress, I introduce solo pieces that match their skill level, helping them prepare for their first recitals with confidence. For adult students, I take a more personalized approach, finding out their musical interests and tailoring lessons to keep them motivatedwhether it's learning classical pieces, popular songs, or exploring improvisation.
