I have been playing and teaching professionally for 32 years. I perform approximately 50 gigs per month on piano and flute as a soloist or duo with my husband (who is a teacher and performer on classical guitar, also in the Musika family). I have enjoyed classical music since childhood and would be in awe of anyone with musical ability. I am happy to now be able to play pieces that I thought could only be played by people with exceptional ability. Read More

I'm a multi-instrumentalist who's been performing on piano since I was 14 back in my hometown of Austin, Texas. In 2009, I moved to the east coast to continue my education at William Paterson University. Over the years, my teachers have been instrumental in my success, and I strive to pass the lessons I received from them on to my own students. Those teachers have included Alex Bohrer, Paul White, and Jeff Hellmer in Texas, Vincent Herring and Harold Mabern at William Paterson, Gary Thomas at Peabody, and many others. Read More

I first began teaching upon the completion of my undergraduate studies in 2004. At that time the majority of my students were beginners in their first or second year of playing. By 2008 I had completed the first of my two graduate degrees in music. With this accomplishment the students seeking lessons with me generally became older, typically in the junior high and high school ages. It has been my priveldge to help some of these students reach their goals of becoming university and college music majors and scholarship recipients. Read More

I teach in a very energetic and encouraging way. I don't want you coming into a lesson dreading the fact that you have to play music, I want you coming in excited to show off what you've learned! To help you feel like you aren't getting 'stuck' in lessons, I like to create goals and then create a timeline on how and when you'll achieve those goals. I am also a big believer that if you (the student) choose what you are working on, then you'll actually want to work on it! Read More

Moreover, the teacher who's job is to cultivate and direct is about twenty percent of the equation. With the proper guidance and orchestration , the student propels forward and gets to a level of competency with teach and practice. Some of the world's great artists, have done it this way and I believe for one that this approach works best as a personal direct from teacher to student. While a good teacher is essential, one who can see the scope of ability in a student and work with both the negatives and positives, the teacher herein is as mentioned a small part of the students success. I have played with an extensive list of musical groups in various styles. I have been a part of the Hazleton Liberty Band (which has roots tracing back to the Civil War) and church groups since high school. In college, I was a part of smal woodwind chamber ensembles, concert band, choirs, marching band, big bands, and small jazz ensembles. I continue to stay active in many diverse musical groups. My teaching style is one of flexibility, but still with expectations. I cater specifically to the needs of the student, and choose repertoire and exercises that will fit with their needs. I encourage positive self-assessments and self talk, and strongly believe that progress is based on collaborative efforts of the student and teacher. And in that collaborative effort, after a realistic goal is discussed and set, I would greatly encourage students sticking to and carrying out their goals. Read More
