I work with my students to find small scale goals to work towards, and when they reach them, we find a new goal together. I like to start my lessons with sound exercises to establish a good tone and then move on to the more technical part. The lesson usually ends with an etude or piece where we explore ways in which to incorporate the technical work we started our lesson with. I usually start my beginning piano students who are children, in Alfred's Basic Piano Library, Lesson Book 1A. After a few months, I begin adding solo repertoire that is appropriate for age and ability. For middle school age students and adults, I start with Alfred's Basic Piano, Adult, Level 1.
