As the student progresses, he/she will be introduced to solo repertoire as well advance method books for recital and competitive purposes. I have almost 20 years of experience on the flute, including a bachelor's degree in Flute Performance from Olivet Nazarene University and a master's in music theory from the University of North Texas. For beginners, I use Rebecca Simonfalvi's called "Potential Contender." It is geared for young children starting out in band. For adults, I generally move between Trevor Wye's "Beginners book for the flute" or the Rubank Elementary Method. If needed, especially with the young, I generally have my students take notes of lessons. I also teach basic theory to give students a deeper understanding of the music. I now reside in Keller, Texas and have opened my flute studio to online students and the Keller/Fort Worth area. My teaching experience began when I was in college. I taught trombone and euphonium private lessons for several years in the school district that I attended when I was a student. Additionally, I also have done All State Masterclasses for the TMEA trombone etudes. Encouraging regular practice, building the life-long skill of discipline, and hard work are key skills that I enjoy getting to emphasize to my students, as it has a tendency to build student progression and ultimately gain a passion for learning the instrument.
