We further move on to the Intermediate and Advanced methods while also adding solo repertoire that is suitable to their skill level. Along with these method books, we will also work on music that they personally enjoy. To me as a musician, teaching is as important and as necessary to our art as performing, and it is always a joy to share that art with students. I graduated from Kent State University in 2015 with my Bachelor of Science in Music Education, followed by a Master of Music in Bassoon Performance in 2019, and recently completed an Artist Diploma from UC-CCM. Although a bassoonist primarily, I've performed with orchestras such as the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, and the Warren Philharmonic, as well as bands like the Akron Symphonic Winds, the Cleveland Winds, and the Packard Band. I began teaching beginner students when I was 16 years old and have been doing it ever since. It's never seemed like a "job" to me. I enjoy the excitement of a first-time student making their first sound to sight-reading duets with more experienced students. For the beginner who is 11 or younger, I start with John Thompson's Piano Courses to make sure the student familiar with all necessary elements of music. Then I will introduce some music that helps developing fingers appropriately and beautiful at the same time, such as Lemoine and Burgnlueller. In 2016, I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts degree in Clarinet Performance at Morehead State University, and in April 2018 I graduated with my Master of Music degree at the Cincinnati-Conservatory of Music.
