My teaching experience began in 2008, when I began teaching private lessons on various instruments, on voice, and on conducting. I later went on to teach band and choir at Cedar Bluff High School in 2011. After this, I volunteered as the band director at Valley Head High School in 2014. I have enjoyed every moment of teaching music and have taken so much from the experiences that I've had. Since the age of 11, Anna Kate has held a tremendous passion for classical flute. It was her junior year of high school when she decided to pursue a career in music and started her journey by joining the Greater New Orleans Youth Orchestra, which toured in France, performing at large concerts in various cities. Subsequently she was accepted to the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts High School to further advance her studies in flute, requiring extensive time commitments of practicing five plus hours per day. Having patience is key to being a good teacher. I realize many students will learn at different paces so it's important to work with kids on an individual level to make sure they're learning most effectively. Positive reinforcement through encouragement and setting attainable goals is another way of ensuring my students are making progress. I love teaching, and I firmly believe that almost anyone can be taught to do almost anything! I have music degrees from Hope College in Holland, Michigan, and USF in Tampa, Florida. After teaching at Hope for 6 years, I joined the Air Force to play with the world-class musicians that make up their bands. I spent 8 1/2 years in Colorado Springs stationed at Peterson AFB, and I loved it! I then moved to Illinois to be stationed at Scott AFB, playing with the USAF Band of Mid-America. Read More
