I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2004, I graduated from the University of Mary Hardin Baylor with a Bachelor Degree in Music Education. I've performed with the Waterloo Wind Band (Austin), the Austin Symphonic Band, the Cypress Symphonic Band, and the Shimmer Flute Choir. At the start of the lesson, I will emphasize tone and air control which I've found makes a huge difference as a warm up. The primary books I will work out of are Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. As students progress and I feel that they have a handle on the basics, I will slowly start to incorporate other repertoire that will be exciting to play and perform. Also, it's never too early to start teaching scales and having students memorize them which will greatly help and improve their technical ability. Read More

I put a large emphasis both on sight-reading and learning to play by ear; I believe these are the most important two skills any musician can have, whether he be an amateur, professional, or somewhere in between (yes, there's an in-between!). I like to focus on whatever a student has coming up for an audition or a solo & ensemble festival. If I can help players have a great experience soloing in public or help them win an audition to play with a great band (and I have a very good track record with my students winning auditions), they'll be more motivated.
