I am very flexible with my teaching methods and put together the best style matching the student's learning strengths. Furthermore, I update and change my methods if I feel the current method is becoming ineffective. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements book, as well a basic understanding of music. Once the student has progressed to have a nice grasp of the fundamentals of music, I usually begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. My approach to learning an instruments is to have the students learn to play by ear first before they can start learning to read music. I find that most students are able to progress quickly because it frees them to focus on the playing the instruments rather than reading notes. I consider reading music like different subject that they learn later. Learning music is like learning to speak. First we learn to talk and then we learn to read and write. Read More

I use several levels of method books that may encompass technical concepts (Moyse), orchestral studies (J. Donjon), Selected Duets, Solo works, Aebersold Jazz Studies and custom lesson plans that I create according to the performance level of the student. It is important to be creative in implementing the different levels of cognition to help students effectively retain and use new information. Throughout his teaching career, Jamie has also participated in many performance and recording projects both as band leader of The Rift, a guest, and a solo artist. During the school year 2016 - 2017 he was a Show Director for the School of Rock - Mamaroneck. Most recently he designed, produced, and taught residencies, culminating concerts, and family workshops for LEAP NYC as a Teaching Artist. He hopes to deepen his impact with music by exploring an education in music therapy and starting a not for profit that provides a 24/7/365 safe-space for young artists, thespians, and musicians in the future.
