Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Saxophone Flute Clarinet
Music is a big part of my life. I started playing trumpet in the fifth grade and eventually went to the University of Toledo where I received my bachelor and masters in music education. I have been a band director for thirteen years and have much experience starting students on all instruments. My college training and my years so far as a band director have helped me to learn how to play all of the instruments in the band. Read More
Instruments: Flute Piccolo
I am a flutist, teacher and performer. I want to share my love for music and playing the flute, with all my students and audiences. I have a Bachelor and Master of Music degree and many years of performance and teaching. I continue to seek out coaching from respected professional flutists, because I feel that the better I play, the better I teach. I perform as a member of a flute ensemble. Read More
Instruments: Flute
I like to tailor my lessons and teaching methods to the skills and age of the player. I usually will put together a bundle exercises compile of flute methods and exercises I create myself to help the student progress. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. Read More
Instruments: Flute
For beginning students (adult and children) I like to be sure that their knowledge about fundamentals is solid. I believe ear training is paramount. Not everyone can sing, but secure pitch discrimination can help all musicians (even percussionists). I encourage all students to participate in ensembles (band, choral also). Knowledge of phrasing is also important to aspiring musicians. Students need support from listening to others play (live performances, radio, and recordings). Read More
Instruments: Flute Ukulele Keyboard
For beginner's I tend to start with lesson books, especially Hal Leonard's Essential Elements because that's what I learned from! I move up from there and like to teach lessons from all different types of genre's and also teach different techniques such as vibrato, jazz flute, etc. Scales and warm-up's are an essential part of every lesson and I always do them no matter what age student I am teaching! I do tailor my music lessons for the individual student. There really is no making a general statement for a specific person. There are, however, some very fundamental aspects of learning music for all people which will definitely include practicing and mastering scales of all type, performing with others, and using the ears to truly listen to intervals and the emotions that are invoked by performing certain keys in specific styles.
