Both offer a variety of explanations on musical elements and topics, while also offering a variety of pieces to play. Growing up with multiple educators in my family has had a huge impact on my life as a volunteer in classrooms.  My volunteer experience began when I was in fifth grade, and has continued throughout all of my education experience at Concordia.  As I kept growing into a stronger individual, I discovered that the age group I wanted to work with also grew older with me.  Working in multiple classrooms throughout my life has only strengthened my resolve to be a teacher because of the communities I have discovered through volunteering. Having these core fundamentals down prepares my students to be able to play any style of music they choose. Lessons are always customized to fit the musical preferences of the student.  I use my preferred method books but am able to incorporate the books the student already owns within the lesson plans.  I encourage the use of technology such as smartphones, iPads, and play-a-longs as teaching aids. Not only do I teach students how to play or create music, but also how to successfully set goals and achieve them. Every musician should have a goal in mind when practicing. Learning how to manage that goal can be tricky. I like to work together with students to take their goals and break them down smaller into more manageable pieces for them to master. When I graduated high school in 2015, I was hired formally to become the flute instructor for Milwaukie High School's flute section and to work with them once a week. As I gained reputation, I started teaching students privately and now have experience working with over 20 different kinds of middle and high school students.
