For older and/or more advanced students, I like to create a balance of tone warm ups, scale work, etudes, and musical rep. I encourage students to bring pieces they are interested in learning into their lessons. If a student is also interested in non-classical music (e.g. Disney tunes, Celtic music, pop, jazz, etc.), I find music in those genres at their playing level for them to enjoy. I realized that I loved helping others learn and I began teaching at local music stores and schools a few years ago. I strongly feel that learning is best done in a fun, supportive environment.
