Hello! I am a highly energetic and passionate music educator from the central Florida area. Over the past 10 years, I have worked with a wide range of instrumental students in and out of the classroom. My primary focus is percussion (contemporary and orchestral), but I am proficient on several other instruments as well. My main goal as an educator is to help students understand the fundamentals of music at a higher level and fine tune their skills on their chosen instrument. Read More

I love to watch a student progress. It gives me such joy to see them happy. I always evaluate every student and I set for them small and realistic goals. I explain to them that in order to achieve a certain goal you must first obtain the facility by practicing the exercises assigned to them. Sometimes its hard for small children to understand why they are doing a certain exercise so I explain to them and show what the drummer is doing on a certain performance they want to emulate and in order to achieve that, they must go through the exercises assigned. Apart from treating time as the precious resource it is (meaning I will give your time the utmost respect and expect the same from you) . . . my style is friendly, patient, and "open" to an extreme. If you have particular goals, communicate them to me, and I will teach you everything relevant to them. If you don't, I will help you identify your goals. If you want to remain "goal-free" (for example, because you used to have some forceful teacher, punishing you for your "lack of dedication" or the like), I have a blast simply looking into facets of music with a curious student. This is a two way street. I will always listen to my student as I would expect in return. An open mind is essential in learning new motor skills as well exporting a new creative platform. I work with my students to understand the concept of teaching your mind/body new motor skills and muscle memory. This is much more than just learning an instrument, it is learning an entire system of patterns and lists. Read More

I graduated from Marshall University in 2006 with a degree in Music Education. A former professional music educator, my desire for freelancing and travel led me on a varied path all over the U.S. and Europe. Finally having settled in St. Pete, I hope to return to an endeavor I love so much - teaching musicians! I've played on cruises, in orchestras and operas, for musicals, as a soloist, and as many jazz, community, marching, symphonic, brass, etc. ensembles as you can imagine! Read More

I really covered this in the above information,so continuing in more detail,it really depends on each individual student, their level of ability and age that determine the course of study. It also depends on the instrument. Some instruments like piano, violin or viola, books are more practical because the music is notated. With most fretted instruments, music is written in tableture which was originally used for the lute and brought back i think in the 1970s.Its easier than reading music and is more practical for those instruments.
