Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. Naturally everyone is different and will progress at their own pace, so I would guide my instruction according to their wants, needs, skill level and also challenge them to venture beyond their comfort zone in each lesson. Being familiar with music is key and this can be accomplished at any age. The more a student becomes familiar with music, the more connections and comparisons the student will be able to make between drummers in all kinds of settings and genres of music, which will then enhance the student's playing on the drum set. In 1983, I attended The Guitar Institute of Technology and studied privately with Frank Gambale, who formalized the single line "sweep technique" on guitar. While in L.A. I also studied with Ed Mann, longtime Frank Zappa percussionist and teacher at Cal. Arts.
