I normally start off by teaching them the grip for the drum stick and the basic stroke. From there I will teach them basic rhythmic patterns found in styles such as rock, pop, and jazz. I will also teach them what the notation looks like for those rhythmic patterns. From there, I will have them read more advanced rhythmic patterns and exercises that contain those pattens in simple beginning percussion books. Read More

I 1987 I graduated from McLennan Community College with an Associates Degree in Music Performance. In 1994 I graduated from the University Of Texas In Arlington with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education. I also have a Texas Teaching Certificate. I first like to get to know my student's goal whether it's just to learn to play, improve their skills, or become a professional. For a beginner I introduce the instrument, and instruct them in the basic techniques to start playing music the first day! I will then give them the instructional tools so they can feel comfortable putting their ideas into practice.
