Ihave been active in the Seattle music scene for the past five years as a drummer, percussionist, composer, songwriter, bandleader, and instructor.I have performed regularly with world-funk orchestra A Cedar Suede, rock quartet SpiceRack andelectro-prog group Spyn Reset. I have been teaching privately for the past 8 years. I began teaching private lessons shortly after enrolling at LSU teaching through the university's performing arts academy. After graduating, I began teaching group percussion lessons with the non-profit organization Kids' Orchestra and also teaching general music at Victory Christian Academy. Once we have become familiar with the neck of the bass we introduce Hal Leonards's Bass Method Book 1. This will build our foundation for learning to read time signatures, notes in bass clef, rhythms, as well as playing complete songs. I prefer lessons to be focused on a curriculum, however customized it may be, as I have found that approach to be the most efficient, especially with younger players.While I believe that it is very important to learn the fundamentals of drumming (as learned largely through a curriculum approach), I also believe that some of the most rewarding experiences a student can have may be achieved through realizing their own unique creative potential.
