My teaching style has been described as one that rewards hard work and dedication, but leaves room for experimentation and fun. I believe that each student has unique gifts to offer the world, and it is my job to uncover them through a combination of connecting to the individual as a person and allowing their personality and aptitude to shine. My goal is always to inspire my students to want to learn, instead of fostering an environment where they feel forced into it. Read More

I started out at the age of nine playing the trumpet, and continued this for two years before switching to piano. Ultimately, I found my love in playing the guitar, and took lessons for two years. As time went on, I advanced as a guitarist and actually expanded into new musical instruments. I began playing in local rock and r&b bands at the age of 15. These were some of my most influential experiences, as they expanded my musical tastes into jazz fusion, swing, standards and Latin Jazz. After graduating high school, I attended community college and then went to New York to study jazz theory, where I played a few sets with Sweetback in 2000 that led up to being asked to play with the band. First of all, I am someone who took formal private lessons for drums and flute from 5th grade all the way through college. I have been at School of Rock for about a year, where I am responsible for many individual as well as group lessons. I have taught a wide variety of ages ranging from 5-23, and I am extremely open to adult lessons. I am a firm believer that it's never too late to learn and that adults are more able to appreciate musical accomplishments. Read More

For beginning students, I usually start with rudimental percussion grips and playing. I usually go off of Stick Control. Once the student has progressed further, I will judge how far along they are and customize they're learning abilities with their exercises and repertoire to learn. For adults, I try to find what genres they are interested and see how far along they are technique and music wise. I like to cater all of my teaching styles to each individual. Read More
Instruments: Drums Conga
For beginning students I usually show them a simple song and teach them how it relates to standard notation and drum set coordination through Ted Reed's Syncopation. Once the student can understand how each of the limbs work and how I will communicate it on a page, we can go over more songs and include other books which detail various beats that are recognizable as well as functional. After fundamental coordination is grasped we can begin to focus on rudiments and the application of certain hand exercises to the drum set to explore possibilities. Read More

At the beginning, I have my class for around 30 ~ 45 mins to introduce the music theory and the instrument to be play. For beginners students, I usually start with combination of James Bastien method and Alfred's Basic for theory session, then based on the instrument choose by the student I complement the class with other book used to play /practice the instrument. For adult students, I try to find what the student is interested in, and provide my lessons accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun. Read More
Instruments: Drums
For beginner students I have a study guide that I go off of that we will talk about at our first meeting. To give a glimpse, I start off by teaching about the rudiments, and I can't stress this enough. Using a metronome is best in all playing. If you want to play drums in a band, or what have you, you have to learn to play with a click. Read More
