I began teaching when I was halfway through college. I began teaching private students as well as drumlines at local high schools. I focus heavily on technique and self-expression in order to make music making as engaging and as fun as possible! I also incorporate real life scenarios into my lessons in order to better prepare my students for what they might encounter in live musical situations. I highly encourage my students to practice every day for a minimum of 20 minutes in order to retain information as well as their technique. Read More

My biggest joy is helping my students develop a passion for music and performing. Opening up the world of music to a student and seeing their progress over time is priceless. It is important that each student progress at their own pace. Setting goals for each lesson, and encouraging each student helps to fuel desire, interest and progress. By trying to find what inspires each student, I can successfully design my lesson plans to their wants, needs and personal goals. Read More

My lessons revolve around both skill and personality so that my students have a good time while they are learning to appreciate music on a deeper level. Whether my students want to learn the the intricate theory behind the delicate piece they are learning, or if they just want to be able to bang along with Bonham to their favorite Led Zeppelin record, I can get them to that level. I started on the drums at age 5 and have been rehearsing, recording, sessioning, and performing for 20 years. I was center snare and section leader of my high school drumline and lead them to win 4 state titles in "Outstanding Drumline". Then moved on to study percussion performance at McNally Smith College of music Read More

I like to start each student off with the fundamentals and rudiments. I think the fundamentals are very important for every musician. Once you master the basics, then we can move on the solo repertoire, or start to develop each musicians individual style. I want the lessons to be both fun and engaging. So it’s important to find what kind of music each student is interested in and then develop that interest and passion. Read More

My methods vary on the student and subject. Beginning students will typically focus more on technical pieces of music to improve on certain aspects of a few pieces to perform. More advanced students will still practice technical parts of their music, but less time will be spent on it during a lesson. Advanced level students will spend more time on repertoire and performance. The more advanced a student gets, the more I expect them to practice outside of lessons and apply their newly learned technical skills into their music on their own. Read More
