For beginner level students I start out with learning how to strike the drum as well as simple coordination exercises and intro level drum beats. After the student can grasp basic exercises, I introduce learning how to read music which will lead to reading out of various drum set instructional as well as technique books. I teach rudiments, technique, and reading drum charts for my beginner students. Wity more advanced students, we study sightreading, and explore different styles of drumming. Typically, I favor using drum method books, and listening to recordings for students to use and listen to in between lessons. Keeping a steady tempo is of course an essential part of good drumming -- I use a metronome to help mystudents achieve that skill, and encourage them to use one when practicing. Read More

I am comfortable playing jazz styles as well as more rock oriented styles on the drum set. I have been playing piano for years and have a strong background in music theory which allows me to teach sight reading and theory on piano. I am comfortable teaching piano out of my apartment (I have a Casio CDP-130 keyboard), or coming to you.
