I am a multifaceted musician, music producer, composer and instrumentalist with diverse musical experience spanning many genres and styles. I graduated from Bard College in 2016 with a degree in music composition. While at Bard, I was involved with the opera workshop and the audio engineering crew. I play six instruments and am able to teach most of them proficiently. Currently, I perform as a solo musician with a backing band at venues and clubs throughout the New York area, and also compose and produce music for film, TV, video games and advertisements. Teaching requires time and effort but it also needs to be fun, therefore my lessons have both components, while setting up short and long term goals we explore music in fun ways that allows for self expression and we stay focused by having a clear goal for every lesson. After graduating from college I joined the Peace Corps. I spent 2 years in Tehran, Iran playing in the Tehran Symphony Orchestra. I returned to the U.S. and went back to school to get my Masters degree. I worked as a music teacher in the Bronx, N.Y. for several years. After that I worked at an electronic music studio in Hawthorne, N.Y. The studio eventually shut down and I began teaching Band at the Stamford Public Schools where I taught music at the elementary, middle and high school levels. Read More

My favorite piano method book for children is the Bastien Piano Basics Series. Alternately, I sometimes use the Faber & Faber Piano Adventures. For very young children (3-6) "My First Piano Adventure," a Faber publication, is my book of choice. For adults, I usually use Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course, though sometimes I skip method books and play pieces picked by the student. As a South African, I was raised on the drumbeats and rhythms of traditional Zulu and Xhosa folk music. Upon moving to the UK, I received classical "western" training in drum kit, chorus, and piano.
