Will is a graduate of the LA College of Music (formerly LA Music Academy) in Pasadena, CA where he studied with industry giants such as Ralph Humphrey (Frank Zappa, Dancing With the Stars, Family Guy) and Joe Porcaro (LA Studio legend). His professional career began at 14 and has been teaching privately since 2012 in the Los Angeles area prior to recently relocating to Maplewood, NJ. As far as drumming goes, I believe in the same tenets that were taught to me; start with the basics and core and work your way up. For drums that means rudiments, stick technique and snare basics (books like "Stick Control" -George Stone). But lessons are not a slow grind that maybe one day build up to a full drum set. I was taught (and teach) in a way which mainly focuses first on these essentials (reading, technique etc.), but also incorporates the rest of the drum-set and playing along with other instruments and music. For beginning students, especially those that are children, I typically will focus on teaching basic technique and fundamentals through the use of in-depth demonstrations, written out exercises, and exercises found in a variety of beginner's method books. Once the student has progressed to the point of having a good grasp of the basics, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire, song play-alongs, and/or a variety of more in-depth exercises based on the student's abilities.
