General Method In General, I believe the three foundations of a student's success are 1. Proper Technique (scales, rudiments, etc) 2. Repertoire (memorized pieces) 3. Creativity (improvising, learning by ear) Parents: You MUST encouraging you child to practice or "play". When they practice, be there, let them know you love hearing them play. In other words, I teach economy of movement for maximum energy. If a student is flailing their arms, we talk about a more fluid movement by utilizing the wrists and incorporating finger control. I guess my point is, I can play any instrument and if I had more time in the world, I could practice more. I took all of the music classes in my college and I passed with flying colors (except brown because he has a broken wing so he can't fly that much, but other colors flew high).
