Very individualized instruction. The focus of the lessons depends on the student. The goal is to use the guitar or bass as a vehicle of self expression. Bringing creativity, in the form of writing or improvising, to the lessons enriches the experience of playing any music. I believe in music as an aural language. I believe there is equal benefit in transcribing recorded music as from reading from the printed page. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my early college years. I had the opportunity to teach several private lessons and group classes. In addition to my experience working with different projects covering genres from Latin and Caribbean music to Jazz and teaching several courses in Music Schools and Universities, I am a holder of M.M. in Jazz Studies from prestigious Steinhardt School of New York University. As noted in my description, I am Ecuadorian and my government awarded me a full scholarship to study in New York, where I had the pleasure to study with such jazz luminaries as John Scofield, Ari Hoenig, Jean-Michel Pilc,Gil Goldstein, Stefon Harris, among others. I have studied with several professional, performing musicians, but most of my learning has come from books, magazines and listening. Listening is, quite simply, the best teacher you can have, provided you do it properly. I have played music since age eight, in school bands, jazz bands, blues, and rock bands. I also have written songs since age 10, and recorded numerous cd's of original music in various styles. I am currently the frontman in the Jersey Shore Blues Rock Tribute Band. Read More

Guitar has a bit of a steep learning curve at first, so I work on the basics of forming a good sound and producing clean notes and chords. Once that's established, I try to inspire students by showing just how much music can be made with as little as three chords. I'll help students learn their favorite songs and use those as an avenue for learning more technique. The best way to learn is by doing something interesting, so I use drills to help reinforce the songs students actually want to learn how to play. Read More

The best feeling for me is seeing my students progress and enjoy playing the guitar. I always set goals for my students from lesson to lesson so that we can optimize what we do in each meeting. We will have short term and long term goals that we work with in order to achieve what a student would like to learn on the guitar. With knowledge of what the student wants to learn on the guitar we can accomplish any goals between individual practice and lessons. Read More
