On the first lesson, I like to help students create realistic, long-term goals for themselves. Then the student and I develop a plan to help them achieve them. Learning tools include method books, recordings of the lesson, and playing along with me. I also make solo pieces available, and encourage the student to participate in local recitals. My lessons generally follow the county public school's music curriculum and include rhythmic and melodic dictation, ear training, sightreading, theory and song form. Read More

My approach to teaching starts with the rudiments. Every Student of mine has to have a good grasp on what stickings are avalible to them. Following the studies of rudiments, i will teach them about note values and reading music notation. Once they have a fair understanding of the fundamentals, i will then begin to assign homework where they can read whole peices of music and scores. Read More

Also, I will use books by Czerny and early Bach tutorials. My teacher at Peabody, Fernando Laires was a student of Isidor Philipp (who himself was of the school of Chopin and Lizst) and as a result I teach the independence, relaxed form, and energy conservation of their schools of technique. For percussion I focus on rudiments, and stick control. When teaching drum set, I teach keeping time, fills, and cross-sticking. Read More

For begining student I typically start with a book called Essential Elements. I supplement some of the things in the book with other literature and hand written exercise to help enhance learning experience. For Adults I try to find what genre and music style they would like to work on. This then allows me to plan a custom learning experience that best suits them and what they're looking to gain from the experience. Read More

My passion is performing and teaching drums. Ever since I picked up a pair of drumsticks for the first time two decades ago, I knew from then on I wanted to make teaching and performing my career. I have been teaching privately for over six years now and have played over 1000 live shows. Some of the bigger venues and festivals I have performed at are Mopop fest in Detroit, Lollapalooza in Chicago, Gathering of the Vibes in Bridgeport, NAMM conference in Anaheim and many more. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music and Jazz can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job! My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn.
