I really work hard to customize the lessons to each student, discussing with them (or their parent) what their goals are.  For beginning students who are children, I use a few great books, some of which I even learned out of when I took my first lessons at age 6. For older students, I try to be open to any material they're intrested in.  If a student  is set on learning to play Beach Boys songs, we don't spend so much time on the classic technique and rudiments BUT over the last 15 years I've developed a system of incorporating fundamentals into practical application that gets my students playing real songs right away while improving technique. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. My personal teaching experience began while studying in Phladelphia at teh Unviersity of the Arts. As I started my 5 year Music Education minor/clearence program, I started to adapt what I was learning and develop my own style and flow of teaching. I began tutoring my friends and fellow classmates after school in the music library on campus, teaching them compex jazz theory, ProTools/Logic DAW shortcuts and processes, piano accompaniment, intervals, inversions,  rhythmic dictation, bascally reinforcing what we learned earlier in the class. I believe that drum has to start with the basics, I used to practice at least one hour a day every day for over 10 years. I still practice on a regular basis with my pads and on my drums. So many drummers you see today are not schooled and its a shame. if you start with a good solid foundation you can be the best there is. I teach combination of the Suzuki method and the Hungarian style (stressing the natural, comfortable, painless, tension free method). For young students, the Suzuki method is great, since the repertoire is all fun! Also the CD that comes with every level is vital! Children enjoy and benefit from that. I am an audiophile, so I can set up students with a quality hifi system on the cheap - this is so vital in Suzuki method, as he stated in his book, Nurtured With Love. Read More

At the age of nine I began my interest in drums in particular. My father was a great pianist, choir director, teacher, vocal instructor, and all around musician. So growing up in this atmosphere has helped me through the years. I have been officially a drummer since I turned ten, and have continued to play in church, bands ( including my own) and for different events of different styles.
