Corey has taught and directed music and theatre for youth for over 15 years. Corey was born and raised in southern Oregon where he spent his youth performing live music and theatre on stages like the Ross Ragland Theatre, The Linkville Playhouse, Oregon Stage Works, and Oregon Shakespeare Festival. He has been playing the guitar and drums, as well as acting and directing, since he was 12 years old. I began teaching after graduating high school and have continued to do so ever since. During these years I attended college at California State University Chico, where I earned my Bachelor's degree as an audio engineer. This journey greatly helped me grow as a musician, teacher, leader, and engineer. Through out my college years I continued to play in bands both through my school and locally in our community, started my own business to help local musicians gain recognition and improve their skills, gained a new appreciation for musicianship and creativity through the eyes of an audio engineer, and of course taught my students to improve their musical abilities. As much as possible, I usually try to make custom lesson plans for each student. For beginning guitar or ukulele students I will usually begin by teaching them to play a familiar song using only a couple chords. This gives them something tangible to work toward right from the beginning. I am versatile and passionate percussionist and drummer who has extensive experience with all percussion instruments and styles. I graduated from California State University Northridge with Bachelors and Masters degrees in percussion performance. I have toured to multiple locations in the United States in addition to performing in several amazing venues such as Chicago Symphony Hall, The Valley Performing Arts Center, and Royce Hall.
