Corey has taught and directed music and theatre for youth for over 15 years. Corey was born and raised in southern Oregon where he spent his youth performing live music and theatre on stages like the Ross Ragland Theatre, The Linkville Playhouse, Oregon Stage Works, and Oregon Shakespeare Festival. He has been playing the guitar and drums, as well as acting and directing, since he was 12 years old. I have studied piano privately for almost 10 years. My first experience teaching piano was in high-school, when I taught after school lessons. Since then I've had the opportunity to absorb the teaching methods of many excellent instructors. My teaching approach continues to be influenced by these teachers. I like to use lots of humor while I teach because I think learning should be fun, and music is an amazing art.   Each and every student who takes lessons from me is an individual. My focus in the beginning is on technique for sticks/hands/mallets. I also focus on body mechanics to help students be comfortable when playing the percussion instrument. I had always had a knack for passing on bits of wisdom to bandmates and friends that were interested in picking up a bit of drums, but it wasn't until spring of 2024 that I decided to take the leap, and got a job teaching drum lessons at my local Guitar Center. My teaching style involves stressing feel, timing, and confidence over note-for-note accuracy. In 4th grade I got a recorder and from then on I've soaked up all the music experiences around me. I fondly remember my first solo performance was 5th grade, and my first honor band was that summer. By my senior year of high school I had been involved in a couple dozen honor bands/choirs/orchestras including an amazing tour of Europe in a 200 person band!
