I like to teach the way I learned how to play the drums.  We will cover everything. How to get good hand control and techniques. Read music. Learn how to play with music! That's the most important as a drummer. Grooves. FillIs. I like to teach with books but also with songs.  It's all about having fun! The one thing I feel that a lot of teachers don't teach is how to practice. Read More

Music has been one of my passions since I was a little girl! I took up piano at age 8, violin at 13, and drums at 15. I've been known to belt out a tune here and there, too! There is nothing better than having an afternoon to lose yourself to creating and playing music. In high school, I was Concert Master of the Philharmonic Orchestra. I've had the opportunity to perform on the drums at various venues and was invited by my drum instructor to return to the studio to become an instructor myself, where I taught for three years. I am a student of Life. I have been classically trained on Piano since I can remember; music is in my BLOOD! My father plays every instrument known to man (and I mean that), has written, composed, and performed in Carnegie Hall. I had the knowledge and know how of music first hand as a gift from one of the most talented musicians I have heard; with the pedigree to match because I am his son. Read More

My method is simple , edgy and creative the approach is extremely understandable and fun as long as the student continues to set personal time for self practice the sky is the limit I personally take student on stage to perform with my band when I feel and see they are ready they learn many original songs that I have written and help them find their confidence on stage we will work on stage presence, showmanship and most of all working in a top notch rock n roll band there is a lot of involvement when comes to performing and entertaining an audience this is a bit more than recital or playing your favorite cover song htere's alot of creativity that goes on with my methods. When did you decide to become a professional musician? Was it a gradual decision or was there a defining moment for you?
As I kid, I held mini-concerts for neighbors to hear. When I joined band in middle school, I insisted on performing a solo at each concert. I also participated in as many local talent shows as possible. By high school, there were different groups and ensembles I was either a member of or was asked to come play with. Musically, I was noticed and became known around campus as "the music guy". I enjoy practicing - looked forward to it, and even during the frustrating moments I knew I was just a step closer to reaching "the next goal". I invite my students to broaden their expectations and of course - practice EVERY DAY!!

What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
I prefer to play "GREAT" music - the exact genre doesn't matter! While my formal education focused mainly on Western music through different time periods (e.g., Renaissance, Baroque, Classic, Romantic, etc.) I do ultimately prefer pop music of various styles from the mid-late 20th Century on up to today!

How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
I have students as young as 3 and some of my students have special needs. However, you certainly know your child better than I do: What is their temperament like? I have but one rule: You have to WANT this...if this musical interest is not made a desired priority ahead of perhaps other extra-curricular activities, then the student will not put outside practice into this and it will become a downward-spiral. Vice-versa, with my positive energy and enthusiasm, I can keep any willing student engaged for a 30-minute, 45-minute, or even 1 to 1.5 hour session.

What is your dream piece to perform and why?
Vangelis was a profoundly amazing composer and performer of many different synthesizers. His music motivated me to learn more about electronic instruments in general as well as challenge myself with utilizing as many features and functions within each machine as I can. Of all his prolific works, my favorite piece by him is "Hymne" (1979, the year I was born). Well, I personally arranged this keyboard piece for my advanced middle school band to play during my first teaching job. I played synthesizer while the band played the melody, harmony, and percussion parts and it was a dream come true to lead and be part of such an incredible group of young musicians!

If you have a Music Degree, what is it in (Performance, Education, Musicology, Theory, Composition, etc) and why did you choose that degree?
I have both a bachelor's degree in music education (Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey - 2005) as well as a master's degree in music education (University of Texas at San Antonio - 2010). Having a passion to share my knowledge and skills of various musical instruments from a young age, I was inspired by some great music educators to follow their footsteps into the field of teaching!

What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
As a musician of over 27 years now, I have had the blessing to perform with many bands, ensembles, and choirs in New York, California, North Carolina, New Jersey, and Texas. As a fully-certified music educator of 13 years in both New Jersey and Texas, I'm also grateful for leading numerous bands, ensembles, and choral groups...at the height of it all, I'd say I'm still learning to be a better musician--that I've got so much work to do! So many venues, so many musical genres, and I place performance as the cornerstone of what I do as a music educator. If I absolutely had to pinpoint a specific performance, well, I had the rare opportunity to perform with the late James Moody (saxophonist) and his band not once but twice during the Summer of 1996 in North Carolina. The experience inspired me to play saxophone forever!
