Once I moved to Denton to attend the University of North Texas, I began teaching piano, drum set and guitar for the companies Taylor Robinson Music based out of Dallas and Hall Music Productions in Southlake,TX. In 2011 I moved to Austin where I started teaching various in-home lessons for families. Read More

I am a student of Life. I have been classically trained on Piano since I can remember; music is in my BLOOD! My father plays every instrument known to man (and I mean that), has written, composed, and performed in Carnegie Hall. I had the knowledge and know how of music first hand as a gift from one of the most talented musicians I have heard; with the pedigree to match because I am his son. Read More

The following are books that I start my lessons with. In addition, I supplement with materials that my students are interested in learning. If there is a particular song or style that they would like to learn(and is reasonably within their ability level or I am able to modify), I work to teach it to them. Drums: ***The book chosen depends on a student's level and personal goals, but these are great books to start with: Drumset For Preschoolers by Andy Ziker(for students ages 2-6, or students that would benefit from a color-coded system initially) The Drumset Musician By Rod Morgenstein and Rick Mattingly(great for beginning drum beats!) Alfred's Drum Method(for learning rhythms and rudiments) A Fresh Approach to the Drumset by Mark Wessels with Stanton Moore(teaches an intro to a variety of styles, including rock, samba, jazz, etc.) Piano: Alfred's All-in-One Course This book has simple, child-centered lessons that are reasonably paced, teaches beginning music theory, and allows students the opportunity to write. I like to use custom lesson plans. I evaluate the student's playing and ask what they want to improve on and/or want to learn. Based off of this, I might use rhythmic study exercises from Ted Reed's "Syncopation" or hand patterns from the book "Stick Control", playing on both a practice pad and the kit. I like to have students play a simple 8th note groove, backbeat on 2 & 4 and incorporate bass drum precision exercises, eventually using different hi hat patterns. Read More

Instruments: Drums

I like to teach the way I learned how to play the drums.  We will cover everything. How to get good hand control and techniques. Read music. Learn how to play with music! That's the most important as a drummer. Grooves. FillIs. I like to teach with books but also with songs.  It's all about having fun! The one thing I feel that a lot of teachers don't teach is how to practice. Read More
