I always approach teaching music in a relaxed and fun way. With the right teacher, learning music greatly rewarding and enjoyable. My teaching style is always based around my students experience level, their goals, and learning style. I always start with activities that are within the student's abilities, and carefully progress through more challenging pieces and exercises. This way, the student will always have a challenge that is achievable, not too difficult that makes them want to quit, and not to easy that makes them bored. Read More

Goals are always tailored to individual student interests. I like to assign practice homework, which is a mix of technical exercises and song-based learning using student-preferred music. I love to watch students peel back the layers of the onion and discover how their favorite artists make music, from learning common chord progressions to transcribing solos note-for-note to imitating playing styles. Very important: Students should also be prepared to be on the receiving end of some high-quality dad jokes, which may or may not be sprinkled throughout homework assignments along with salt and pepper to taste. New Orleans has welcomed me with open arms and I have been able to play with, and learn from many great musicians here. The first significant gig I got in New Orleans was with the Jason Marsalis vibes quartet. Jason was also a teacher of mine in college and he hired me for many gigs upon my arrival to New Orleans. I was able to record a live record with him entitled 'Jason Marsalis Live!' (Basin St Records) and I've toured around the U.S. with his group since 2018. Read More

Growing up, I tried a dozen different instruments before I discovered the drums. I've had six years of experience and a lot of different teachers with different teaching styles since then, and one major lesson stands out: drums are hard, but consistent, mindful practice always makes the difference. The same lesson applies to almost anything. In my college experience, it always turned out that consistent work produced the best results. Read More

I have been teaching as a side-gig and hobby for almost as long as I've been playing! It started with friends in the neighborhood approaching me for advice on how to get started playing guitar. In my years in the Baltimore/DC area, I took private students for extra income outside of my dayjob. Now in New Orleans after years of grinding as a performing musician, I've increased my roster of students as a rewarding and less stressful way to have a music centered career, primarily with guitar and drums. I have a firm belief as a teacher that you can really enrich someones life through learning and challenge. As long as I can remember I have been surrounded by music. I have been playing drums for over 20 years since the age of nine, and have been playing guitar, keyboards, bass as well as singing for 10 years. I took my passion for music further by enrolling at Roosevelt University, Chicago College of Performing Arts and studied drum set under the direction of grammy award winning drummer Paul Wertico.
