I like to use lots of humor while I teach because I think learning should be fun, and music is an amazing art. I am versatile and passionate percussionist and drummer who has extensive experience with all percussion instruments and styles. I graduated from California State University Northridge with Bachelors and Masters degrees in percussion performance. I have toured to multiple locations in the United States in addition to performing in several amazing venues such as Chicago Symphony Hall, The Valley Performing Arts Center, and Royce Hall. From there, I get them to start incorporating some fills. I try to find out what kinds of music the student likes, and continue teaching them a few more grooves and fills and some other simple songs going off of that. I also start explaining subdivisions some more at this point. From there, I typically start to get into some rudiments and basic exercises. Often, I find I end up introducing some simple ones much earlier to help students over a hump in learning a groove or a fill. Read More

I have the skills to teach my students whatever they may want to learn, but in order for the best results, it is important to me that I build a relationship with my students much like a friendship. I have a focus on rock and metal drums however can play and teach most styles. I believe drums need to be fun for a student to really enjoy playing and progressing, I can remember being a beginner and first "unlocking" independence between my hands and feet. I do believe the key is just to practice and find joy in that. Corey has taught and directed music and theatre for youth for over 15 years. Corey was born and raised in southern Oregon where he spent his youth performing live music and theatre on stages like the Ross Ragland Theatre, The Linkville Playhouse, Oregon Stage Works, and Oregon Shakespeare Festival. He has been playing the guitar and drums, as well as acting and directing, since he was 12 years old.
