I was also a section leader at Cresskill High School, where I led, trained, and directed the drumline. I teach out of the following books "The New Breed", Gary Chester, "Drummers Complete Vocabulary" as taught by Alan Dawson, John Ramsay, "Syncopation for the Modern Drummer", Ted Reed. I teach more than 35 years now. It is a great experience combined of mostly private lessons and classroom experience. I am trying to motivate my students according to their interests and also buy using a worldly music knowledge that we inherited form generations of musicians who ever lived on Earth. I tend to edit my teaching style based on how successfully my students meet their goals. I honestly love teaching young and beginning students because they're an absolute blank slate, something I do not take lightly. Having fun and establishing a strong practice routine is paramount with younger students. I emphasize listening to records/music with all students but especially with more intermediate to advanced students.
