I strongly believe that everyone is very different. Learning styles and musical goals are very much a part of this. Some find reading from a book helps them, so for most students I begin by recommending "A Modern Method For Guitar" from the Berklee Press, however for others a book is not as helpful as listening to some music and watching someone play. I like to introduce as much theory as is desired from the student because theory is a very important part of the musical process, but if the student prefers to get playing first and understand the “why” later then we can work something out in that regard. Depending on musical interest, we can work with different genre's and pieces to promote specific techniques and practice routines. Read More

After seeing an unforgettable performance by the Blue Man Group, I became inspired to start playing the drums at 10 years old. I participated in every school ensemble possible throughout elementary school, middle school, and high school including jazz band, marching band, pit orchestra, jazz combo, concert band, and a blues/rock band outside of school that regularly performed around southern New Jersey and Philadelphia. Since 2008, I have performed live on over 200 occasions around the mid Atlantic and New England regions. In 2014, I graduated from Berklee College of Music summa cum laude with focuses on Music Business and Drum Set Performance.I currently play drums with Vitamin Sun, a progressive/alternative/indie band located in Boston, and GEPH, a progressive/metal/jazz instrumental trio also located in Boston. A class once or twice a week is beneficial I believe for keeping up the continuity of practice. We will work on first the guitar as an instrument, basic chords, chord structures, some basic scales, and over time making chord changes happen as the minds memory/muscle memory for remembering chords grows! This is crucial for making the basic song happen. I encourage my students to find a handful of songs they really enjoy and may want to learn, so that we can learn them piece by peice. Read More

My goal is to help my student evolve into a creative, critically thinking, and fundamentally strong musician.I want my student to find his/her own creative voice through music. Even if the student does not pursue a career in music, through this process he/she will have developed invaluable skills and confidence. Seeing students acquire that self-confidence and creative voice is what makes teaching worthwhile. Read More

Reading and understanding music notation is obviously essential. However, my priority with first students , is to make sure they are engaged and loving what they are doing within the first 10 minutes. I have sat in front of , and studied with some of the most gifted musicians in the world, so suggesting books and instruction material is easy. What’s important is making sure the student is fully engaged and running to the instrument, rather than feeling like it’s homework. Read More

I enjoy sharing my musical knowledge to students so they will advance in their musical aims. In 1983, I attended The Guitar Institute of Technology and studied privately with Frank Gambale, who formalized the single line "sweep technique" on guitar. While in L.A. I also studied with Ed Mann, longtime Frank Zappa percussionist and teacher at Cal. Arts. In Boston, I became assistant to George Russell on the revision of his 1953 copyrighted and published book "The Lydian Chromatic Concept Of Tonal Organization" released in 2001. Read More
