As a teacher, my main goal is to see my students succeed and grow as a musician at their own pace. I focus on improvement and progress. I like to challenge my students with new material every week and new techniques. Even though every week we will be learning new things, I help my students grasp the concepts that I teach before we move to the next step. Nothing is more gratifying than seeing students experience the joy of making music and playing. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. There's a ton of books about drumset out there. I like to use some of the best ones in my experience that offer us infinite possibilities to create our own individual practice routines. These include: - Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone - Syncopation by Ted Reed - Modern Rudimental Swing Solos by Charley Wilcoxon - The Drummer's Complete Vocabulary As Taught by Alan Dawson More than the books I like to focus on the desire, the flame in the student which drives them to want to play music in the first place... a favorite song or band, and then use these books in order to service that. I started teaching drums back when I was in High School, in France. Since then, I have had the chance to teach students from all ages and background. I love to adapt the different goals that different people can have. As long as my students are willing to have fun and open their ears, everything is achievable. I really encourage students to find out which songs/genre they enjoy and make them play along with music to recreate a live band playing experience. Read More

First of all, theory is extremely important to learn music. By learning and understanding theory you will realize and appreciate music as the amalgam between art and science. Music is heavily influenced by math. Music is science of the soul. Secondly, I make a lot of emphasis on improvisation as well. As soon as you understand the fretboard and your finger get used to playing, then improvisation connects your fingers with your soul, your muse, your inspiration. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to when I was back in Brazil, teaching privately young students and also adults. Here in New York, I have been teaching privately as well as writing various articles to drum magazines such as Modern Drummer Magazine, Drum! and recently I have a column in Drumhead Magazine called Brazilian Beat. I am a very all around drummer and teacher being exposed, researched and performed many different styles of music, not only Brazilian enabling me to pass along some knowledge in many different types of music.
