My teaching style is rooted in the philosophy that if you keep explanations simple then understanding is easy. Playing drums is not easy but it is not complicated either. I find that it is important to work on making a sound from the instrument as soon as possible, thats why often times the first drumset lesson will include learning a beat on the drumset.
