Each student has his profile, so I seek to adapt the methodology of teaching according to the individual needs and personal choices of each student. For beginners looking to learn to read sheet music, I usually adopt the books of Michael Aaron or James Bastien (for small children). For those students who wish to develop their musicality without reading shuffles, I teach through imitation learning, the development of auditory perception and creativity. Read More

Music has been a passion of mine from age 6. I got my start playing the piano with friends trying to figure out the music from Super Mario 64. Not a day has gone by since then that I haven't picked up an instrument of some kind. It's been a goal of mine to learn as many instruments as possible throughout my life and focus on the instruments I love. I've been able to learn the piano, organ, all kinds of guitars, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, percussion instruments, and vocals. Read More

I employ methods from the Peery Piano Academy by Christie Skousen, as well as added techniques I have found to be most helpful. I utilize fun games, flashcards, and a rewards system that encourages my students to stay focused on the task at hand while learning and retaining new information. I keep an organized studio and adjust my teaching to each student according to age, goals, and skill level. I tend to bounce between different materials depending on the need of the student and have used Faber Faber, Alfred, and Keith Snell. Read More

I am somewhat flexible on books and methods, but unless my students have already invested time and money in a particular published method, I start them on the Bastien series, which is not too expensive and is well designed and effective. As they progress to intermediate, they will be expected to buy some classical music, collections, and technique books. In addition, I will write out some exercises and guiding information and instructions to assist them in their practice and approach to style and technique. Read More

I love seeing my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it is important that each student is allowed space to be curious and creative as well as have enough structure to know how to continue forward. Together, we will make realistic goals for the week at the end of each lesson according to the needs, interests, and availability of each student. I will make a concerted effort to acknowledge accomplishment and create motivating meaningful performance opportunities. Read More

I, above all, want students to develop their own love and appreciation for music. I have high expectations in y studio, but I make it clear that students will progress at different speeds and that’s okay. Every week I give a set of warm-ups and exercises to focus on and expect students to practice so we can hone them when we’re together, but I’ll never ask a student to do something they’re not comfortable or familiar with - if ever there’s a question I’m there to answer or demonstrate.
