For beginning students, I usually work with Hal Leonard's essential elements as well as use the piano as a tool for them to hear the pitches they are playing. Once the fundamentals are grasped we can work on introductory solo repertoire. For children I'd like to make this a bit more fun as well, introducing some easy tunes they will be familiar with or excited to play. (for example, Jason Derulo's song "Trumpets") For adults, I think its best to find out what their interests are and we can target what to work on from there. Read More

After receiving my doctorate in music from the University of Miami I started to teach at a neighborhood music school in Queens, New York. It's there that I fell in love with teaching. There's nothing greater than sharing my knowledge with the next generation. Hopefully you will become one of my students we can go on a musical journey together. We can learn all the styles that I have experience in including jazz classical and popular music. Read More

When I meet with a student the first thing I try to find out is what they want from music lessons with me. I then assess their ability level and try to create a lesson plan that includes a lot of what they want to learn along with a bit of what I think they need to learn. I like to assign short term goals such as weekly or monthly homework that I can check up on in every lesson. Read More

For young students, I would usually start them off using Bastien Piano Basics. It's very digestible, and gives a good starting-off point for both technical playing, and larger musical concepts as a whole. With a student who is older or perhaps more advanced, who has a solid grasp on technical proficiency and music theory, I would typically recommend studying specific pieces, starting with Classical, and eventually moving into Jazz. I feel that following a chronological study of music is one of the best ways to become a well-rounded, versatile player who feels comfortable approaching any material. Read More

I approach teaching as a means to help the student develop their own relationship with music development. I firmly believe that all music students are their own best teachers, and a great teacher helps the student learn to discover themselves. With that in mind, I aim to help the student learn the fundamentals of their instrument, expose the student to new musical avenues and ideas that inspire them to work further, and challenge them to reach for new heights in their understanding and proficiency. I have taught students for about 5 years and it has become one of my greatest passions. I've worked with all age groups from toddlers to the elderly, as well as a wide range of skilled students from beginner to advanced. I am currently teaching in my home studio and I also drive to my students' homes for lessons. In my lessons, I always make sure the students are enjoying what they're learning. Read More

I stress to all my students exactly what a drummer's job is, that he/she needs to compliment the music and play within the framework of the song. The best thing that another musician can say about a drummer is that they have a great "groove" or great "feel". If I can get my students to that point then I'm happy. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
