Initially, assessment practices are used to determine what the students already know and what they are capable of. When selecting repertoire, it is important that the music is going to challenge the students, but not so difficult that the students will be unsuccessful. Besides difficulty, intellectual design is taken into account when selecting repertoire. It is valuable for students go beyond the basic execution of notes and rhythms. I am a motivated instructor and clinician who loves sharing musical experiences with my students. I started playing percussion at the age of four and began formal training by the age of seven. Throughout middle school and high school, I branched out musically and played low brass, guitar, and bass guitar to become a more well-rounded musician. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson, I also ask the students what do you want to achieve today in this lesson, or this week. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. Read More

I always encourage my students to start slow and to not get frustrated.
