Eventually, this will allow creative freedom for them as they progress with their studies. After PipSqueak disbanded, I finished high-school exploring ska and punk music in the band PickUpChix, in which I did my first out-of-state tours, taking a van from Tulsa to play college shows as far as St. Louis. Outside of the band, I challenged myself to learn the rhythmic signatures among other cliques of friends, from the speedy double-kick footwork of death metal to the machine-rhythms of 90s hip-hop. My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 3 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. The importance of using method books is based in the student's ability to review material between lessons and using them as checklists for progress.
