It all started when I took my first drum lesson in the 4th grade. From then on, I wanted to play whenever I could. I played in all my school bands from middle school to high school. Graduated Southern University, home of the world famous "Human Jukebox" which I was a member of for 3 years, as well as playing for my church since I was 13. After the student grasps the fundamentals I introduce solo pieces to build a repertoire so that they may grow their musical knowledge and become a better musician. I have always believed that music is a conversation between the musician and the audience, and the instrument is the interpreter. With this in mind, with any age, I start with a regular conversation. Knowing the passion, interest level, and motivation of the students helps me create a method of teaching that is specific to the individual. I also learn their experience and knowledge level. I then let the student show me their skills by playing a little, allowing them to loosen up and get comfortable with me, while I analyze and access strengths and weaknesses. Read More
