Initially (and throughout) I place a high value on performance fundamentals. I start with a focus on proper posture and breathing. The first thing I establish is technique as it is the foundation to moving around the set and becoming comfortable. For beginning students I try to go slow and make sure that they get the fundamentals and essentials down. My beliefs are that learning each stage well will help expedite the process of learning and playing later in life. At some point shortly after the fundamentals we will begin on solo literature and possibly duet literature. I always want to tailor my lessons to the student, so that they come away both a better musician and learning music that they want to play. Read More
