I have been playing the drums for 16 years and the guitar for 18 years. I started by learning how to play rock beats and songs independetly and eventually started taking lessons from drummer, Martin Dosh of Andrew Bird's live band. Martin, a jazz and hip-hop drummer from Minneapolis taught me how isolation techniques and jazz/swing exercises derived from Hal Leonard's methods book. My metropolitan way of studying starting in Europe, performing abroad, and coming to U.S. made my music views wider open for other styles of music. Starting from Folk music, Gypsy, Classic, Jazz, Latin; all these styles helped me to perceive new horizons in music. My lessons typically include warm up, stretch, book work and creative playing. My various warm ups include the open closed open technique with rudiments, great hands for a life time by the Tommy Igoe, and the rudimental Ritual by the late great Alan Dawson. The books I work from are rooted in jazz and pop but can be applied to anything in-between, with repetition as the key element. Andrew has studied percussion for 15 years, and has been involved with the Marching Percussion Activity for over 10 years as a performer, clinician, composer, arranger, and educator. He has marched with the Emerald Knights Drum and Bugle Corps from Cedar Rapids, Iowa (inactive) as the Center Snare and Drum Line Section Leader. I come from a large musical family with professional, working musicians and teachers, music has been center stage in my life for as long as I can remember.
