Learning a musical instrument is very challenging and for most of us it doesn't come naturally. It's unfortunate when students become frustrated too quickly in the process and decide to quit out of frustration. In my style of teaching, it's very important that students feel some level of success no matter where they are in their own musical journey. Often I will perform lesson materials in unison along with students to help them if they are feeling anxious or uncomfortable. Read More

As a music educator, my legacy will be to cultivate a life-long passion and appreciation for music within each and every student. Since I was a young child, music has been an integral part of my life. Ive had formal training and performed internationally and across the continental United States in an award-winning jazz band, Pennsylvania State Championship marching band, elite School of Rock House Band, symphonic bands, collegiate ensembles, orchestras, pit bands, pep bands and rock bands. I'm a driven music professional who does not only love music but is motivated to teach and give knowledge to those who are aspiring musicians. I have been involved with music from early elementary through college. Composing and producing soundtracks for television shows, film and playing as a studio musician for mainstream artists has been one of the higher experiences of my music profession. While attending college, I worked as a session drummer for artists like Jon Bellion, Tinashe, and Pia Mia. Read More

For beginning students, I normally start with Alfred's Drum Method. This book works on the fundamentals of reading snare drum music and basic technique. Once the students grasps the basics on reading and playing with a metronome then we tend to move to Tommy Igoe's Groove Essentials (while still working on the Alfred's Method). After the student has began to play with the audio tracks and have succesfully gone through a few lessons from Groove Essentials then we begin to work on some solo repertoire and personal favorites as well. I prefer a multifaceted approach with the goal of encouraging simultaneous development of the core areas of drumming (ex. reading, coordination development, fundamentals, etc). While also striving to provide the student with inspiration, enjoyment, creativity and intellectual musical growth. A general lesson framework would be similar to the following: Fundamentals/warm ups, Technique, Repertoire Development, Drum Set Chart Reading, Basic Notation Reading, Trading 4s, 8s and More, Ear Training, Discussion Preferred Beginner Texts: The Drum Set Musician- by Rod Morgenstein/Rick Mattingly The Drummers Cookbook- by John Pickering/Frank Briggs Alfred’s Drum Method Book 1- by Sandy Feldstein/Dave Black Read More
