I am currently a professional performing and recording drummer based in central New Jersey. From time to time I perform in other areas of the United States and sometimes internationally! I come from a musical family and fell in love with music before the age of 5. I started playing the drums in school areound the age of 10. At the age of 12 I got my first drum set, and nothing has been the same for me since then! I participated in all the band programs throughout my school years. I marched in a very competetive Marching Band program. In my senior year of high school I was both percussion section leader and student president of our band! I rely on my schoolastic training heavenly as it relates to my work ethic. When I teach I like to combine that schooling with the practical experience and knowledge I've gained from being a working drummer for the last 25 years or so.
I have been teaching for a little over a year now. My students range from ages 8 to almost 60. I specialize in helping beginners and intermediate drummers. I truly enjoy watching a musician accomplish something that they may not have thought was possible. I have so much fun playing the drums. It's of utmost importance to me that my students experience that same joy! Drumming is not easy, so I've seen students struggle, but with positive reinforcement, encouragement, passioin and work ethic, I am proud to say that I've seen all of my students thrive!
I belive in meeting the student where they are . Not everyone learns the same way. So I try my best to meet the student where they are at. Sometimes that means working out of a book...there are many great drum books. We can work together to find the one that is right for you. Somtimes, I simply work with the student to identiufy goals and then put together a plan to achieve those goals. I Do put a lot of emphasis on posture/technique. I do this so that the player can hopefully avoid injuries and aches and pains.
Again, the most important thing about learning any instrument is to have fun! If it's not fun, you won't continue to work hard at improving. That doesn't necessarily mean that I am not "tough" on a student. I think it is important to be honest and hold students accountable. However, I belive in celbrating all of the "wins" in life, no matter how small they may be. Let's work together to set lofty but attainable goals, and then let's have a blast arriving at all of these milestones . My students often get a good laugh out of how excited I get when they play. A celebritory "YEAH" and high fives should be exoected!
