My teaching style is a blend of structure, creativity, and student-centered guidance. I believe that great teaching begins with connectionunderstanding who the student is, what inspires them, and how they learn best. Whether Im teaching a child just discovering rhythm or a teenager preparing for performance or recording, I strive to create a learning environment that is both challenging and encouraging. Each lesson is goal-oriented but never rigid. I use clear objectives to track progress while remaining flexible enough to adapt to the students pace, curiosity, and energy. Read More

For children and other beginners, I would start our lessons by encoding the basic function of music theory application of a drum pad. This will allow stick control and muscle memory to begin developing. As the beginner becomes more of a novice, I will introduce simple and repetitive songs and go over them as whole pieces. Those who are experienced in percussion, I will have them show me all of the rudiments they know, any complete pieces they have memorized, and have 5 minutes of improvisation. Read More

I started teaching since coming to miami in the year 2002. This is where I discovered that teaching can be a powerful way to help others improve and cause a positive impact. Little ones develop brain interconnectivity like no other discipline does (not even math!). Teens use it as a way to express themselves in a very healthy and powerful way. Adults have a very good hobby for the rest of their life, or a side business. Read More

My approach is focused very much on performance, technicalities, and theory. I believe it is very important for the student to understand how these aspects of playing coincide with each other, and how they are equally essential to music playing. Before giving a student a piece of music to play, I will always play it befoehand and dissect the song into portions that I feel need special attention. I encourage playing with other musicians, and always try to teach the art ofimprovisation, so that the students can learn to play not only by themselves, but with other musicians, using the musicial understanding that it takes to improvise. My passion for working with students started in high school. I was a long time counselor at my high school's summer day camp and acted as a leader to a group of kids from 2nd grade to 4th grade. In college that passion, combined with my passion for music, led me to major in music education. While at Willamette I helped middle schools and high schools in the community by serving as a percussion specialist running sectionals or coaching jazz rhythm sections. Read More
