My teaching studio is equipped with two drums sets and practice pads to accommodate marching or drum set students.   I also have a full PA and two keyboards set up for piano students and accompanying purposes.  Each student is given an assignment for the week (or specified time) and will then pass off this lesson assignment (barrier) before receiving a new lesson.  Passing off not only includes demonstration of the lesson but also performing with me as I accompany them on the keyboards. For beginning students I try to go slow and make sure that they get the fundamentals and essentials down. My beliefs are that learning each stage well will help expedite the process of learning and playing later in life. At some point shortly after the fundamentals we will begin on solo literature and possibly duet literature. I always want to tailor my lessons to the student, so that they come away both a better musician and learning music that they want to play. Read More

My teaching experience began back when I was a junior in college. I started working with 2 high schools in the Daytona Beach area in the marching arts as well as private lessons. Upon moving back home in the metro Atlanta area after graduating, I began doing various clinics for high schools in the Dekalb and Fulton county areas in preparation for the schools spring concert band festival. My teaching methods are relatively universal. With younger students, I focus more on learning to have fun while learning about their instrument at the same time. The more fun they're having, the more likely they are to stick to it. For adults, I keep this same philosophy in tact, but incorporate more technique, theory, and performance practice into our sessions in order to facilitate the learning curve.
