With this in mind, I work with the student to find songs or pieces that they want to try and sing. If it is an appropriate level of difficulty, we will work on it straight away. For beginning piano students, I usually begin with the Alfred Prep Course, supplemented with a notespeller to help expedite learning to read music. I also begin ear training, chords, and solo repertoire as the student becomes ready. For voice students, I begin with breathing, vocal technique, and skill-level appropriate songs. I start beginning students that are interested in learning to play guitar with rhythm for the strumming hand. I will then move on to the fretting hand to finger positioning as well as learning the notes (on the guitar fingerboard) as heard at concert pitch.
