Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.. Read More

This is my job; to teach the instrument with enthusiasm, passion, & an enjoyable, fun filled approach. We will be working towards a rudimental & fundamental based understanding of the drumset through traditional technique, theory, books, along with fun, modern songs. My goal will be to teach how to practice independently. I recommend setting up a practice schedule so that he knows when he is supposed to practice. If there is struggling with any of the weekly assignments, that is ok! Read More

My teaching experience began in 2001, during an after school program. I facilitated a drum circle and taught lessons to kids from ages 8 to 15 years old. This lead to several parents of the students requesting private drum lessons. I have been teaching privately in student's homes over the last 15 years. I find that defining the student’s goals, and centering the lesson around those goals keeps the individual inspired to progress forward. Read More

I participated in all the band programs throughout my school years. I marched in a very competetive Marching Band program. In my senior year of high school I was both percussion section leader and student president of our band! I rely on my schoolastic training heavenly as it relates to my work ethic. When I teach I like to combine that schooling with the practical experience and knowledge I've gained from being a working drummer for the last 25 years or so. Read More

I will encourage all my students, regardless of age or skill level, to perform at a recital or open mic; some type of live performance, as this builds confidence which is hugely important for an aspiring musician. For my drum students, I will begin with basic snare drum technique and essential rudiments, while teaching them the fundamentals of reading drum notation. The next step is a basic drum beat with the kick and snare, and we move forward from there. Read More

To enhance the individual's experience I use background in music, current studies, and style preference to choose which methods might be best for the student. Younger students require more stock information and techniques such as Essential Elements, Alfred's drum book, or basic Fender guitar method for example. Adults, however, can take a more personal approach. Using an array of adult methods, or simply just finding books with your favorite songs seem to work the best when helping adult students learn. My teaching is very student-driven. I try to keep the students interests as a primary goal in keeping their interest level and so that they can progress in a musical situation. When they are interested in what they are learning, they strive for success. I try to acknowledge their successes and accomplishments which helps keep them learning and wanting to learn more. The best way to learn music is to teach it effectively, and I ALWAYS am learning from my students in a variety of ways, whether it be a new group that I'm not familiar with, or another style or genre that is new and fresh.
