When teaching younger students, I prioritize developing a passion for music through engaging repertoire and positive encouragement, while instilling proper technique and organized practice with weekly progressive assignments. Beginning students, especially children, need more guidance and structure to the lessons to get started, but its still important to keep them interested , engaged and having fun, so Ill typically integrate lessons on basic technique with songs that children already know. My primary instrument is Clarinet but there are a lot of basic things that could be used universally across all genres and instruments. I always stress the importance of foundation on and off the instrument. In addition to understanding the assembly of the Clarinet, breathe support, and embouchure training, I encourage students to have a basic knowledge of theory as we will begin to learn notes, rhythm, and scales.
