Currently I am an Elementary General/Vocal Music Teacher with Baltimore County Public Schools. I am a 2012 York College of Pennsylvania Music Education graduate, and my primary focus was on the alto saxophone.   I have performed in various ensembles during my time at York, from Jazz to Wind Symphony and even the YCP / Community Orchestra. For all students I strongly encourage an appropriate level to begin with. I am very familiar and prefer to teach with the James Bastien series. This series come with the appropriate assigned age level. There are four books with each level. A technic, theory, performance, and Piano. While progressing through that level I mix in to teach Major, Minor, harmonic minor, and melodic minor scales for theory and fundamentals. My teaching style varies for each student's individual needs. For beginner students I often try the easiest way for the student to enjoy the lesson while also giving the most value in their time. It is my desire to show every student that they have what is capable of making great music, now. I have also taught middle school flute and clarinet in the Loudoun County Public School System, it was a lot of fun and one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I've been teaching music since May 2008 and love music. My goal is to pass on my passion for music to future generations. Many of my student I have had for years on end. I've gotten to see them grow up and it's a very fulfilling knowing that I have contributed to the family’s life by teaching the kids to play music and foster the courage for the students to play for their families. Whether they think that they've done really poorly or extremely well, I encourage them to listen to themselves critically and prepare to share genuine feedback. Then we discuss both their strengths and the areas of opportunity for growth. This practice helps students progress over time. My methods are intervolic reading for voice and piano. I also teach the intervals to clarinet and saxophone students. As an educator, it is important for me to not only see my students learn and become better musicians, but thrive and have a good time doing so.
