For adults I use Alfred's beginner adult course. I also supplement these books with several books that I have in my personal library, such as Keith's Snell's Essential Piano Repertoire. During my study in Shanghai, I started teaching middle school wind ensembles as well as saxophone and clarinet lessons. Starting 2012, I also have been teaching jazz combos and saxophone ensembles for Shanghai International Saxophone and Jazz Summer Camp. I designed my course on the topic of jazz history while I was in Boston. Throughout his teaching career, Jamie has also participated in many performance and recording projects both as band leader of The Rift, a guest, and a solo artist. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements book, as well a basic understanding of music. Once the student has progressed to have a nice grasp of the fundamentals of music, I usually begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance.
